would be none other than Laura Hensley who by the way

also helps type sweets view, so go on girl each up and

turn on out spotlights.  Fantastic, also would you

January 18th 2011

By now this week’s show should put us back on track and a bit more in synch with things as a few things at our end had to be moved around, that’s why our postings are running behind and the sweetsview crew had been battling the bug! But the show must go on! Time to get out of the snow and cold and get into the warmth of our backstage area.
Oh, yes, that’s much better. This is an easy one are we all sick of the snow and cold? I know for a fact we are without a doubt! With that being said it’s time to move on. The stagehands are busy getting things all ready for us to rock out so here is where we say we’re glad you stopped in and checked out our sweetsview, where we have a little bit of everything for you. Here come our stagehands to take us to the stage but first, by now you know we must turn on our spotlights and this week’s turn goes to us. That’s right, us, for in case you didn’t notice sweetsview.com when you punch that into yahoo or bing search engine we pop up as the number one listing. At least for now and since we are our own news source for Winslow, IN. Winslow, IN hut number 1 with us. So I told Beth at Town Hall who was unaware of this along with many others, Tom V. was glad to hear it. Now here’s the kicker out of all the hits sweetsview.com is getting the, what I like to call, the out of town folks far outnumber our local people who look at sweetsview. That one I don’t get, the hometown for now of sweetsview.com is Winslow, IN hardly looking at it. I would think they might be on board a lot more than they are but in time that might change, we hope.
But none the less sweetsview.com hit number 1 with the help of our awesome Dan the computer man, Laura fast fingers, and me and the Mrs. writing and taking pictures for you all to enjoy! So now with the spotlights now on we’re storming the stage this week as we have just a touch of swagger.
Now that we’re all up here it’s time, Girl Scout Cookie Time, as they are now selling Girl Scout Cookie from the 1st to the 23rd of January. So make sure you get those goodies and help out your Girl Scouts.
As of January 1st 2011 the Winslow Town Council members has now changed with Clerk Treasurer Joetta Gudorf retiring which left a vacancy at this office, so Jeff Bolin resigned as Council President and took over as Winslow’s Clerk Treasurer job. Dave Tisdale will take Jeff Bolin’s spot at Town Council with Buck Ashby and Don Bolin remaining where they are at on the Winslow Town Council. Part of this was voted on and passed with the rest to be voted on the 24th of January or the next Town Council meeting.
But it brings up this point. The state house in order to save money is looking at a proposal to end local government and would move it to a county-wide thing. How would all this work? You might want to look into it if you care. We thought you might like to know of this.
Time to move on from all that stuff and get into some fun sounds. Hey have you checked out the couple of cords I put down for you all? Hope you liked them.
Well, that’s all about what’s going on in Winslow other than the slick side streets. At press time we’re snow covered and slick and we got about 4 inches of snow. How many more days to spring? For as us it can’t get here fast enough in our thoughts.
Also we want to wish good luck to Laura Hensley as she will have to make trips back to Indy for school very soon. All we can say here is keep warm and stay safe. So until next time good people I’m heading backstage and make room for the Mrs. go get them Barb.
Here are the birthdays and anniversaries for the week of January 19th to the 29th. First we have a few belated birthdays to mention. Mallory Cates on Jan. 9th turned 24 years old; Chris Zazzetti on Jan. 14th turned 23 years old; Vickie Cravens on Jan. 14th turned 56 years old; Metissa Bailey Oneal on Jan. 14th turned 42 years old; Amanda Truitt on Jan. 15th turned 29 years old; and Billy Wilson on Jan. 17th.

May each of our stars have a great day and may all your wishes come true throughout the year to come.
Keep in your hearts our stars that are in the hospital, nursing home, or at home for many reasons like Hallee Stephens who is in St. Marys Hospital for a couple of weeks from an appendix that burst so we wish Hallee a comfortable stay and in no time you will be back with your family and friends at school sooner than you can say Get well real soon!
Other stars to remember are Teresa Nicholson, Deby Dillman, Annabel Richardson, Ruthie Hayes, Betty Sullivan, Jerry and Rosella Hill’s grandchild, Katy Aldridge, Charlie Norrick, Dagmar Brossman, Margie Hart, Brenda Riley, Norma and Cal Bodkins, Laura Hensley, Norm Sweet, and many more with the flu or cold.
May all our stars feel better real soon so they can be back in the swing of things with their family and friends again.
Events coming up in Winslow and the surrounding areas are: Jan. 17th Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday; Jan. 20th Winslow Lions Club at 7:00pm at the Trading Post; Jan. 24th Winslow Town Hall at 7:00pm; Jan. 25th Eskimo Dinner Club at 6:00pm at the Community Center. Winslow Senior Citizens meet on Mondays and Tuesdays at the Community Center, Enhanced Fitness meets Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 12:30pm-1:30pm at the Old Gym at the Community Center.
Did you know that you are invited to set in or visit or join any of the groups or meeting if you wish and in some cases they will be happy you stopped by and maybe you will be compelled to come back again to see what they have for the Winslow Community.

You have heard the saying the kids say when you go somewhere that goes, “are we there yet?” well I have a saying that most of us are thinking, “is it spring yet?” Don’t get me wrong but the snow is fine and good for the kids to play in and make snowmen but to drive or walk in the snow is only good for one time not all winter long. It seems like my hopefully thinking is just that “hopefully thinking” cause we are still going to get more snow in inches and the temperate will still be in the 30’s at daylight and in the teens at night. Don’t get me wrong about the winter its fine to have the different seasons it is just hard to adjust to the coldness even if it’s in the dead of winter. I will get over it and at one point of the summer I’ll wish we had this weather to cool us off a bit.
To all the people who have to drive in the ice, snow, and rain every day we wish them all the confidence in the world and hope their travels are not too trying on the old nerves. For the parents who look out for their children who drive, as it is written on the limo, “It will be alright.”
Do you like to be called names? Do you like to be thrown to the ground? Do you like to be hit like a punching bag? I have a feeling we all have some opinion about what the bullying is about and you  know someone who is being bullied but in any case we need to stop it right now before it grows bigger in our neighborhoods. If you see a child being mistreated would you step in and help or would you let the child be mistreated? I hope we all can say we would give a helping hand. I know we all teach our children to be kind to others but there is always that one child who doesn’t care or just doesn’t know right from wrong and we should try, at least, to do our best to help each child grow up to feel important and not be afraid to step outside their own yard, they should be able to walk down the streets without being scared. We don’t need the bullies in our towns at all.
The postcards are still holding at #503 but the pictures and movies are updated weekly at www.sweetsview.com and you can still send the postcards to Sweets’ Column Winslow, IN 47598.
Grandparents it’s good to be with your grandchildren and see the improvements they make in your eyes every week and how smart they are. They always try to be good little angels but everyone in a while they show the ugly side for a short while but they are still learning the wrong and rights of everything and it’s hard to take it all in at once. They still earn our love and that s what they all live towards in us.
As they lights dim for this week my hope for all of our stars is to keep an eye on family and friends, slow down, and enjoy your surroundings and watch out for the school buses on their route then as always smile, wave, and say Hi to everybody you see this week.
“Be kind to others”

May all our stars have a grand and glorious day and may all your wishes come true throughout the year to come.
Keep in your hearts all our stars and yours who are in the hospital nursing home or at home for many reasons like Deby Dillman, Annabel Richardson, Ruthie Hayes, Betty Sullivan, Grandchild of Jerry and Rosella Hill, Katy Aldridge, Teresa Nicholson, Charlie Norrick, Dagmar Brossman, Margie Hart, many with colds like Laura Hensley and Norm (my hubby), many who will or have gone to the doctors to be treated for the illness that is making them not function like they should. May all our stars and yours feel better soon so they can be back with their loved ones again.
Events coming up in Winslow and the surrounding areas are: January 5th – Creative Writing from 2-3pm at the Corner Book Shoppe; January 6th – Winslow Lions Club at 7pm at the Trading Post; January 10th – Winslow Town Hall at 7pm; January 11th – Eskimo Dinner Club at 6pm, Winslow Beautification Comm. At 6:30pm, Economic and Development at 7:30pm all are at the Community Center; January 17th – Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Winslow Senior Citizens meet Mondays and Tuesdays; Enhanced Fitness meets Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 12:30-1:30 and both meet at the Community Center.
No matter where you live there is something in your area like Winslow that you can join or just set in to see how your community works and maybe with your help or input you can have a hand in helping to make your area a little bit better.
How was your New Year’s Eve and Day celebration? Ours was grand because we spent it with Laura, Daniel, and Kyana along with Francis as we played games listened to guitar playing and singing and watched the countdown to the New Year on TV. We all kissed our spouses and toasted in the New Year. Kyana had a fun time and as the 12:00 hour approached in her own special glass and that made her feel like a big person. Kyana didn’t have to be told that it’s time for bed she got her pillow and covers and all of a sudden she was out for the night.
Did you see on TV at Times Square Levi Poehlein and friends? Somehow we missed him but we heard his mom, Lisa, saw him three time. We haven’t been to the Big Apple so the question for Levi is “How did you like the crowd of people and can Times Square fit in the Town of Winslow and who did you meet?”
How did you like the gorgeous 60 degree weather we had to end the year of 2010, then it turned cold to begin the 2011 year. Yes, Mother Nature is teasing us but she could have left some of the warmth instead of sending the coldness to us again. Oh well, I guess we will just have to keep the extra covers out for a bit longer, say 3 more months.
Charlie and Virginia Norrick had a visitor for the months of hunting season that was their son and this past weekend he left Winslow to travel the roads to scenery Florida.
Sylvia Wheeler has had her son and his wife as guests for a few months and I’m sure she is glad to enjoy their company.
The postcard count is setting at 503 but if you still want to send one to us and it will be viewed on www.sweetsview.com you can still send it to Sweet’s Column Winslow, IN 47598. On the website you can see just how much snow we got on Christmas morning in Winslow and I’m one of the people who wanted a White Christmas but only on the grassy areas not on the roads or sidewalks.
I would like to thank everyone who decorated this past year for all of us to enjoy and I enjoyed each and every one of them. You all outdid yourselves on the different ways you decorated for the children. Keep up the good work this year too and if you are in or around Winslow I will make sure to enjoy your handiwork.
Guess what? It’s time to end this dull madness but before the lights dim for this week smile, wave, and say Hi to everybody and slow down and see what is out there for you to view. Watch out for the children as they go and come back from school.
Barb Sweet
