April 30, 2011
Hey
have you got the time? How about we get into our backstage area and
just in case you need one, feel free to grab a towel for we all had way
too much water to deal with all across southern Indiana. As our
stagehands get things ready for us we have to give them a big shout out
for all their hard work getting us ready to rock and just in time for
here they are ready to take us to the stage. But first we have to take
a second to throw on our spotlights and this week’s turn, without a
doubt, goes to Tonda Dixon of Pike County EMA, Travis McCandless, and
the fine fire fighters of the Winslow Volunteer Fire Department, the 40
members of the National Guard, the Winslow Police Department, the Town
workers, plus countless many citizens of Winslow who worked on
sandbags. Great job one and all! So please reach up and turn on our
spotlights. Time to take the stage.
Now
that we’re all up here, so far no postcards have been sent to
Sweetsview Winslow, IN 47598 don’t be shy send one and we will post it
on the web site.
Now we can move on. We hope you had a nice Easter with your family and
friends.
Well the story of the past week is one word RAIN with us having close
to 7 inches of rain is there any doubt that flooding would be a
problem. It wasn’t that long and Pike County EMA had to spring into
action. Way to go Tonda Dixon, the Winslow Volunteer Fire Department
was in action along with local citizens chipping in sandbagging; even
the Winslow Police Department was chipping in way to go Steve Nelson.
The town workers of Winslow was chest deep in to keeping the water on
for the people, not an easy task. Plus the National Guard, all 40 of
them, help out Winslow, we even knew about 5 who were local people from
Winslow and Petersburg. We hope you enjoy the flood pictures.
At, “Press Time,” we’re waiting for the water to go down and to clean
up the mess. Question is: When will that be?
Last Saturday Winslow held their annual Baseball parade, a long time
tradition in town, so all the young baseball players go to show off
their new uniforms and the teams they are playing on. The season is now
underway. Have lots of fun.
We
hope you enjoy the video and if you get a chance go ahead and take in a
ball game. True it might not be at the pro level but it should be fun
to take in. maybe just maybe we might have some upcoming video of a
game or two.
All
I can say before I go is let’s hope we don’t get that much rain back to
back for a while. So take some time to enjoy the weather and now it’s
time for me to make room for the Mrs and her fun.

As
the lights dim we wish all Mothers a very happy Mother’s day on May 8th
and always smile, wave, and say Hi to everyone this week.
Right
now, Sweetsview wants to say we’re “Sorry” about the error codes that
popped up last week. Hopefully it won’t happen this week! So moving on
now we’re still glad you stopped by and checked us out anyway!
So
what do you say we get backstage and get ready to rock out with
Sweetsview? Time to make our way to the stage, as always we must turn
on our spotlights. This week’s turn goes to the big city of Petersburg
and Spurgeon Indiana who got ruffed up by the wind storm that moved
through last week. What a mess! But Pike County pulls together to help
each other out so great job! And they still have a ways to go before
all is back together.
It
is time to take the stage. Now that we’re here where to start? We can
forgo the postcards as we didn’t get any in this week. So if you got a
postcard you want to send to us Sweetsview Winslow, IN 47598 will get
it to us. Don’t be shy and send us a postcard.
Now
if you think back I told you I would get you a picture of a mushroom or
two. Here is where it just gets funny. I went to mow for the first time
of the season. After working on the mower and getting it going I
started mowing and took a break to refuel. The Mrs (Barb Sweet) called
me and showed me something that I missed totally and even walked passed
it not even 5 feet away from the electric meter. The Mrs showed me a
double morel mushroom.

First
how in the blank did I miss that one? But it shows you sometimes you
just need to slow down and look around, for I couldn’t believe she
found a double mushroom. Way to go Barb. But sadly we haven’t found
anymore and by the way “yes” it was good.
Last
week’s storm ruffed up a lot of southern Indiana with Pike County
taking a big hit both in Spurgeon and Petersburg and Winslow got trees
blown down along with limbs all over the place. Here are a couple of
pictures of the Dollar General Store in Petersburg with the roof blowed
in and a house with a porch blew off and even a street lamp was knocked
down. As I write this one it is Thursday April 21, 2011 things are
getting back to normal!
You
know people, sometime you need to just get away and take in some
different sights. We did just that as Vernon Arnold, Barb, and I took a
road trip out of town, for luck Barb and I was able to treat Vernon for
a change. We found ourselves at the Overlook Restaurant in Leavenworth,
Indiana on State Road 62. It was an awesome place to eat and to take in
the view of it all plus it’s a great get away! We want to say take the
backroads it’s worth it!
The
service was just great as Tracy Pierson, our awesome waitress, made
sure we were well taken care of. The food was great as it made our
taste buds savoring with every bite. It left us both filled and
satisfied. We were so glad we made the getaway to the Overlook
Restaurant the view along is worth the trip. The food is just the icing
on the cake. So to say if you’re looking for a great get away and your
stomach starts to rumble find the Overlook Restaurant on State Road 62.
We suggest you do it on a week day if you can for we hear the weekends
the Overlook is swamped!
Guess what! One of our new readers of Sweetsview sent us some pictures
from the Special Olympics. So we want to thank Kim from Pike County
PCARC. Where she is working to get a Pike County Special Olympics
started, she is hoping to have it up and running by June 1st. We wish
her good luck.

We
send congrats to our local stars that rocked at the Special Olympics up
in Indy you made us proud. Well my time is up so here comes the Mrs to
rock those birthdays and things.

As
the lights dim for this week keep an eye on family and friends, slow
down and see what beauty is out there and always smile, wave, and say
Hi to everyone this week.
We
hope you got a kick out of our Statehouse video.
All we can say well
that was different! What do you say we get to our backstage area? It’s
great to see all of you here and I want to give a monster Hello to some
of our new readers of Sweetsview. Hope you check in on us from time to
time for you never know just what we will have for you! It’s time we
make our way to the stage so let’s “go!” But first, we have to hold up
a second to turn on the spotlight and this week’s turn goes to??
Alright how about you new readers of Sweetsview? Now don’t forget to
spread the word about our web site. Killer job gang! So without further
ado let’s take the stage and rock this thing.
Where
to start? Alright, how about here. We didn’t get any postcards to share
with you all, what a shame! If you got a postcard you want to share
with us send it to Sweetsview Winslow, IN 47598 and we will share it
with you.
As
I write this issue of Sweetsview the rain has set in and the weather is
turning a touch cooler. That’s fine for it got pretty warm real fast
and we know it wouldn’t last but it was nice run.
Well
have you mowed your yard yet? I haven’t but very soon will have to
because the grass is starting to get tall. Everybody was out and about
in Winslow enjoying the weather and just general doing some clean up.
Most of all catching up on things.
Hey
here is something new John Gayhart is gathering all of those old car
and truck batteries that are dead and no longer hold a charge so if you
got one get a hold of John and he will take it off your hands.

Just so you know last Saturday me and Barb went to the Trading Post
to get breakfast and take in the Crackle Barrel Session with Senator Lindell Hume, and State Representatives Mark Messmer and Craig Battles where they told us what is going on in the Statehouse. It was something different to take in!

Oh yeah, Neal Ward was there to officiate the session.
The big question around town is, “Are they up yet?” Just what in the heck am I talking about? That would be the Morel mushrooms and people they are up and are being picked as we saw two bags of mushrooms that have been found and picked already! So get to the woods and hunt them up for it won’t be long and they will be gone! “Pop” Did you hear that? The mushrooms just popped up. Good luck. Maybe before their gone I can get a picture or two for you but no promises. So long for now I’m making room for the Mrs.
